Some cosmetics manufacturers would love you to believe their products can prevent wrinkles if you use them every day, and if I was a manufacturer of anti-wrinkles creams and lotions, I would also want you to believe that. After all, there’s a ton of money to be made, and business is all about generating huge amounts of revenue. Unfortunately however, unless you can find a way to avoid old age, there is simply no way you can totally prevent wrinkles. Having said that, there are numerous things you can do in order to minimize the formation of fine lines and wrinkles.
If you’re under a lot of stress at work, you’ll almost certainly begin to show premature signs of aging. Stress is by all accounts a silent killer, and many people tend to underestimate the damage stress can cause. Stress interferes with a person’s diet and eating habits, and of course it often interferes with one’s sleep. A poor diet and a lack of sleep are major contributors to premature aging, not to mention all the other related health problems which you could end up experiencing. If your job involves a great deal of stress, you should ultimately change jobs, but of course that may very well not be an option. Alternatively, you might want to consider things like yoga and meditation, both of which can reduce stress levels significantly.
At the Dinner Table
One of the very best ways to prevent wrinkles is by making sure you’re eating the proper foods. It goes without saying that fast foods and junk foods should be virtually non-existent. Apart from them being linked to several serious health problems, they’re also going to have an impact on your complexion, as well as on the overall condition of your skin. In a nutshell, you need to be eating plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables, and whenever possible, these should be eaten raw. You’ll also want to include some oily fish in your diet, such as sardines, mackerel, salmon, and tuna. These are a great source of Omega-3 fatty oils, and there is a vast amount of evidence showing how important Omega-3 fatty oils are in terms of skin health. Another very useful food which springs to mind is avocados. These are full of healthy fats, and have long since been recommended by skincare specialists.
What to Avoid
In an article as short as this, it would be impossible to list each individual thing you need to avoid in order to prevent wrinkles, so instead, we’ll just look at the most important. First and foremost, if you don’t want your face to look like a dried prune by the time you turn fifty, you had better not spend too much time in the sun. If you really must be in the sun, always make sure you use a good sunscreen lotion, and if possible, also a suitable hat.
Smoking is notoriously harmful to your skin, and is largely to blame for early signs of aging in many cases. The same can be said about alcohol consumption, although this is usually only the case when there’s regular heavy drinking involved. You also need to avoid using harsh soaps, just as you should keep the use of makeup to a bare minimum. Many popular cosmetics contain harsh chemicals, and while they may allow you to look slightly more attractive, they’re going to have the opposite effect in the long run.
Many of the leading cosmetics manufacturers are quick to highlight any ingredients in their products which might be beneficial, but they don’t seem as enthusiastic to highlight any of the potentially dangerous ingredients. For this reason, it’s not advisable to automatically assume the most famous brands are the safest or the best. Instead, invest a little bit of your time into doing some research, because there really are some great products out there. While they may not be able to prevent wrinkles entirely, they can certainly help you to keep your skin looking radiant and healthy.
